The Crimes Against Women Division will investigate violent crimes
against women that are reported to the Police Department. The division will be aggressive in the pursuit of the charges with the City Attorney's office or the County Attorney's office to ensure prosecution for the violator and justice for the victim. Once the report comes to the division and the need arises, the victim will be referred to FAMILY HAVEN. FAMILY HAVEN can help the victim to obtain crisis counseling, follow-up therapy, group treatment/support, shelter, information and referral, justice support and advocacy, emergency financial assistance as well as providing outreach to victims who have not actively sought services.
Working in cooperation with FAMILY HAVEN, the CAWD also provides education for the general public in the area of violence with an emphasis placed on "stopping the cycle"
In cases where there is aneed for an Emergency Protective Order against the perpetrator, the CAWD will work together with FAMILY HAVEN to make sure courts are aware of the situation and will assist with the protection of the victim or victims in each case.
